Why farming?
I’m a third-generation farmer – my father and grandfather were both farmers. When I was young, I would travel to Scotland with my father, which got me into farming. When I was 14, I got into arable farming.
Years later, here I am at P.X. Farms where I’ve been for two and a half years now.
As part of my role, I often deal with staff, collaborating with team members to ensure we provide our customers with the best possible service. Life on the farm is fast-paced and demanding, so timekeeping is important. I also help to ensure that our customers are happy through high-quality customer service and deal with the general maintenance of the farm.
What is your favourite season and why?
For me, the harvest time of year is the best. The whole team gets to have a laugh and collaborate together. Plus, we also get to use the big machinery.
What is the most interesting thing you have learned about farming in the last year?
It’s been great getting to learn more about the agronomy of the crops. I’ve learned more about how to identify what I’m looking. I’ve also learned more about wheat control, and when you should and shouldn’t spray.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three things that you would want to have with you?
If I was stranded on a desert island, I’d make sure I had beer, some music and a friend. You need to have some company being stranded on an island for who knows how long!
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I think if I could have a superpower I’d be like the Flash – super fast! It’s always better to be on time.
When not in work, what do you most like to do and why?
I enjoy using my motocross bike and my quad bikes.
